[Apply by 29 April 2019] Development i-Teams apply Cambridge ideas to the developing world

Development i-Teams investigates ways in which real Cambridge innovations could be used in the developing world to improve people’s lives in a sustainable way. By joining a Development i-Team, you will work for 5 weeks with students from across the University and a dedicated industry mentor. You will investigate the realities of taking of a real Cambridge invention into the developing world, gaining hands-on skills and experience. Past Development i-Teams projects include WaterScope, Open Diagnostics and Solaware.

This term’s projects are:

Apply by Monday April 29th for the Lent term Development i-Teams course. Teams will be notified by Friday May 3rd.

Development i-Teams runs on Tuesday evenings at 7pm-10pm from May 7th through to June 11th, at the Institute for Manufacturing. In the first session you will meet the inventors behind the projects and start work. The final session will give an opportunity to present the results of the projects to an external audience. See the syllabus for details.

All teams meet on Tuesday evenings which includes a training lecture or workshop and time for team meetings. Past i-Teamers estimate that their projects needed about 4 hours a week of individual effort in addition to the weekly sessions. As part of their projects, team members will need to contact external industry experts by phone and email – some calls and meetings may need to take place during office hours.

Development i-Teams is open to any student (under-graduate or post-graduate), post-doctoral researcher or member of staff at the University of Cambridge, Babraham Institute or the British Antarctic Survey.

Innovation i-Teams and Development i-Teams will next run in the Michaelmas Term. Medical i-Teams will run in the Lent Term.
