Cambridge Display Technology seeking life scientist in Godmanchester

CDT currently requires a Scientist to support its technology scouting and innovation team in identifying new research themes and projects within the field of Life Sciences.

In this role you will you will be building up CDT’s expertise in Life Sciences as part of an Interdisciplinary team that includes Biochemists, Chemists, Physicists and Engineers. This will support CDT’s plans to expand its activities in the field of Life Sciences, which already include projects related to Biosensors and Biological Imaging Agents. 

Excellent academic credentials are essential for the role, including a PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Synthetic Biology or a closely related subject within the Life Sciences. In addition, you will have both practical experience in common Molecular Biology techniques, including molecular cloning, nucleic acid isolation and purification, and PCR, and a deep understanding of the underlying principles. The role requires a clear and confident communicator with a demonstrated aptitude for creative thinking and delivering novel solutions for unmet needs. You will be an experienced researcher who has worked on projects relating to one or more of the following areas: Gene editing or silencing; nucleic acid-based therapeutics; RNAi in agriculture; Synthetic Biology; Molecular Biology. 

In this role, you will be responsible for identifying, planning and executing projects to demonstrate the technical feasibility of novel concepts of commercial relevance. These projects will be delivered through both in-house research and, where appropriate, management of collaborative projects with industrial and academic partners. An important aspect will therefore be to build relationships and strong networks with academics within the Life Sciences community. You will also be supported by our market analysis team in the evaluation of market needs and competition for target applications.
