The UK Centre for Mammalian Synthetic Biology is a BBSRC/EPSRC/MRC Synthetic Biology Research Centre, hosted by the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Edinburgh.

The UK Centre for Mammalian Synthetic Biology is a BBSRC/EPSRC/MRC Synthetic Biology Research Centre, hosted by the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. Our vision is to apply synthetic biology in mammalian systems to realise its full potential for human medicine.

With world-leading faculty members drawn from the Biological Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, Informatics and the Social Sciences, the Centre offers an exciting and collaborative research environment. It also embeds colleagues from the Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine, a centre of excellence for stem cell research, who are supervisors on several projects.

More information about our Centre and our research plans can be found here.

As one of our graduate students, you will join a cohort of students actively involved in helping the Centre achieve its research goals. You will gain access to training and facilities including computational biology, molecular genetics, biochemistry and biophysics, contemporary ‘omics technologies, stem cell biology and the new centre for DNA assembly (Edinburgh Genome Foundry). The University also offers a fantastic range of professional development opportunities to help you achieve your career aspirations.

These studentships are an exciting opportunity to be at the cutting edge of this fast moving area of science and technology in a world-leading research institute. We are looking for highly motivated graduates who are creative thinkers, enthusiastic about the potential of this new area of science and keen to work across disciplines.

The advertised posts are funded by the University but we are actively seeking industrial (and other) sponsorship so your PhD may involve collaboration with industry.
