We are looking for a highly experienced and established scientific leader with an outstanding track record to lead our molecular biology and genetic engineering endeavours. Reporting directly to our Chief Scientific Officer, the candidate will lead a team of scientists at a focal point within the wider R&D department. The main objectives of the team are:

  • to develop advanced, multiplexed gene editing approaches and high throughput genomic screens

  • to conduct custom iPSC engineering

  • to lead innovation and the development of novel reprogramming approaches.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, inspiring and growing a team of scientists focussed on designing and executing innovative genome engineering strategies towards the generation of advanced human cells.

  • Contributing to the development of company strategic R&D programmes by advising on science and innovation in genetic engineering and synthetic biology.

  • Ensuring the management and delivery of multiple projects at the interface of key scientific programmes in consultation with lead scientists.

  • Working closely and collaboratively with our other Department Heads (Research, Bioinformatics and Machine Learning, Product management) to meet scientific and new product launch objectives.

  • Engaging with the academic and industry scientific community to promote and diversify the company R&D activities.


… Have a PhD in life sciences with a minimum of 5 year experience as a group leader in academia or industry.
… Enjoy growing and leading a high-performing team of scientists (>7 direct reports).
… Enjoy tackling research challenges through critical thinking and inventiveness, demonstrating the highest scientific rigour and work standards.
… Are comfortable and used to working to tight timelines and managing workload and priorities.
… Are keen to establish collaborations both inside and outside the company.
… Are a passionate team player with excellent communication skills.

With essential experience:

  • Molecular biology and genetic engineering of mammalian cells.

  • High throughput genomic screens.

  • Team leadership and project management involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.

  • Knowledge and hands on experience of human pluripotent stem cells.
