Job Description
We are seeking a protein scientist with strong experience in expressing and working with a range of protein targets in multiple systems. You will join the growing team developing our biopolymer synthesis technologies, based in the Cambridge Science Park. This role would suit a keen and enthusiastic, recently qualified PhD graduate who is energised by solving biological and biochemical problems.  To thrive in this role you should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, willing to take on responsibility, and excited to engage with the team to solve important challenges.

We are looking for a highly driven individual to:

  • Play a key role in driving forwards the biochemical aspects of Nuclera’s technology
  • Generate core protein components for our technology
  • Troubleshoot protein expression and purification in bacterial expression systems
  • Undertake rigorous QC analysis of generated proteins

To meet these challenges, the candidate will need to:

  • Have a strong interest in synthetic biology and DNA synthesis
  • In the process of obtaining or have obtained a Ph.D. in a relevant field
  • Have significant experience in protein expression, protein optimisation, and protein purification
  • Be familiar with analytical techniques, such as SDS-PAGE, SEC, and bioassays
  • Efficiently perform molecular biology tasks, such as molecular cloning and site-directed mutagenesis
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary scientific team

Experience/knowledge in the following areas would be advantageous:

  • Protein expression in multiple systems, not just cell-based E. coli

About us

Nuclera is a 25-person strong, fast-growing biotech company based on the Cambridge Science Park. Our mission is to provide life science researchers intuitive, powerful, and time-saving tools to engineer biology. Our first product will be a benchtop instrument capable of cartridge-based next-day gene and protein synthesis. Using our instrument, scientists in the synthetic biology and therapeutic market sectors can rely on a standardised, next-day supply of genes and proteins that integrates with their engineering biology workflows.
