Engineering Biology in Cambridge

BBSRC and Innovate UK have announced the Alternative Proteins Innovation and Knowledge Centre scheme. The University of Cambridge can lead on only 1 bid but may partner in multiple applications. Please note that the internal selection process to select the single Cambridge-led bid has concluded.

For more information about the scheme, please visit the funder's webpage.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Support Letter

The applications must be accompanied by a 2-page letter of support from the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Research from the University and from each University involved in the proposal (both leaders and partners). Please note that a letter is required both for bids in which the University of Cambridge is leading and in which Cambridge is a partner in a bid led by another institution. Therefore, this will be coordinated according to the University’s Procedure for VC and PVC Research Support Letters.

If you are interested in applying, either as a lead applicant or as a partner, please send both the draft support letter and support letter form to researchstrategy@admin.cam.ac.uk by 12 pm on 31st January, 2024.

The letter and the form templates can be downloaded from the VC and PVC Research Support Letters Webpage.

Please, refer to the call requirements for the support letters and to the University guidance on support letter for further guidance on what it should include. In particular, the funder has provided the following guidance:

  • BBSRC and Innovate UK recognises that in some instances, additional information on organisational commitment may be provided by the Research Office, the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) or equivalent, or a combination of both. You must also include the following details: a significant person’s name and their position, from the TTO or Research Office, or both office and either an address or web link
  • BBSRC have confirmed by email that "it would be appropriate to indicate that the institution is supportive of the application and to highlight the wraparound support and resources that will be offered to the centre and how the university will be supporting the bid in addition to the required financial contribution".

The PVC Research reserves the right to refuse to sign support letters which do not meet these submission deadlines.

 Funder deadline: 28th February, 2024
